In Abuja, the federal high court adjourned Nnamdi Kanu’s trial to the 19th and 20th of January, 2022, which is two months from now.
On Wednesday, the leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, went before the court to face the charges which were charged against him by the Nigerian federal government, but during the trial, a drama happened which made the security officer lock Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyers outside and also made the justice of the federal high court adjourn his case.
A lawyer whose name was not revealed but who was present in the court said;
“This morning we entered the court to take the application that the defence counsel filed, which challenged the jurisdiction of this honourable court, which are the charges which are pending before the honourable court.”
They brought in Nnamdi Kanu and his lawyers, who attended the court. One of his lawyers, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, was the spokesperson and leader of the team.
“The lawyers took photos with their client, Nnamdi Kanu, and also made videos. A few moments later, the judge announced that the high court was about to sit, and all the lawyers walked out of the court room. The lawyer added
The lawyer also said that when the judge entered the courtroom, the judge called the case but all the lawyers were not present.
“The defendant, Nnamdi Kanu, entered the dock, and the court later asked for the appearance of the prosecution and the defendants, but none of the lawyers were in court at that particular time.” The lawyer revealed.
The unidentified lawyer added that it was the absence of the lawyers that made the federal high court decide to adjourn Nnamdi Kanu’s case because it was the lawyers who filed the application and they were not present in the courtroom at that particular time.
The federal high court decided not to set aside their application, but ordered that the court adjourn the case of the Leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, till next year for proper trial.
But Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, said they never intended to stay outside the courtroom as the court locked them outside.
