Victor Osimhen Has Been Dropped From The Super Eagles Squad

According to the latest report, the Nigerian football star, Victor Osimhen has been ruled out of the Super Eagles national team Squad for the 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations.

This report was also announced by the Nigerian football federation (NFF) as the explained that the recent Covid-19 status of the Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen wouldn’t allow him to participate in the upcoming AFCON tournament.

To boost the strength of the Super Eagles team due to the removal of some players, 4 new Nigerian Players were invited to replace the players who were dropped from the Squad and the include:-

Tyrone Ebuehi, Oluwasemilogo,  Henry Onyekuru, and forward Peter Olayinka.

Ademola Olajire, who is the spokesman to the Nigerian football federation stated that despite the changes made to the AFCON’s Super Eagles team squad, the goalkeeper section remains unchanged as none had to be replaced having recorded zero injuries and negative Covid-19 status.

In a statement, Ademola Olajire said,

“ As the African Cup of Nations tournament is set to commence soon, the Nigerian Super Eagles team recorded some setbacks as our players,

Victor Osimhen tested positive to Covid-19 and Abdullahi Shehu got an injury and because of this, the NFF took a bold step in bringing new players to replace them”.

“The goalkeeping department is untouched, but the forced rejection of Cyprus – grounded Shehu, who can niche fluently into sections of the defence and midfield, has made way for hard-as-nails right back Tyrone Ebuehi,

now with Venezia in the Italian Serie A, and England – grounded Oluwasemilogo Ajayi returns to the group for Africa’s flagship football crown following injury to centre- reverse Leon Balogun. Ajayi can also play as a midfielder”.

“The absence of Osimhen paves way for Henry Onyekuru who is based in Greek Club, Olympiacos to prove himself on the pitch”.

Another Nigerian striker, Emmanuel Dennis, was dropped from the squad after his club were unwilling to release him for the AFCON tournament and he had to be replaced with Peter Olayinka, who is based in the Czech republic.

Anioma Press had earlier reported that Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen is currently under isolation after testing positive to Covid-19 as he tried to exit the country to get back to Italy for his medical examination.

During a Seria A match between SSC Napoli and Inter Milan weeks ago, Victor Osimhen suffered an injury as a result of his smashed cheekbones and he underwent surgery to fix the problem.

It was on his recent travel back to Italy for a medical examination that his Covid-19 tests came positive and luckily, he was in Nigeria when the result was confirmed.
