Emmanuel Dennis scored his eighth goal of the season in Watford’s 4-1 home loss to West Ham in the English Premier League on Tuesday at the Vicarage Road Stadium.
After being teed up by Joshua King, the Nigerian international opened the scoring for the hosts just four minutes into the game, but the visitors were too hot for Claudio Ranieri’s men, hitting four unanswered goals to snap their five-game winless streak in all competitions.
Dennis has already eclipsed his best-ever league goals return since turning professional in the Ukrainian Premier League with Zorya Luhansk in the 2016/17 season.
His previous best league performances came with Club Brugge in the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons, when he scored seven league goals in 30 and 26 games, respectively, but he has already exceeded that accomplishment in England with just 16 league games.
He’s also been involved in 10 of the Hornets’ past 13 Premier League goals. Dennis has been involved in 59 percent of Watford’s 22 Premier League goals this season.
The strike concluded a strong first half of the season for the Nigerian international, who joined the Hornets from Belgian giants Club Brugge in the summer.
The 24-year-old is presently regarded as the summer’s best buy. His performance has earned him a spot in the Super Eagles squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Cameroon next year.
