Special Aide to Delta State Governor on Youth Development; Hon. Prince Peter Melekwe has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria, led by President Mohammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress APC to return police to their duty posts and ensure the safety of lives and properties of the people. He said without Security operatives in the various states in Nigeria, lives and properties are not safe and that cannot be overstated.
Hon. Melekwe made this appeal on Friday 13/11/2020, while briefing newsmen immediately after a meeting in the Ministry of Youth Development, Asaba following the continued absence of the police on Delta State roads.
The SA to the Governor who also reminded the police that it was their job to protect lives and properties, urged them to jettison the ugly incidents that took place few weeks ago as a result of #endsars protest across the state which was later hijacked by hoodlums. He further stated that the country now have more reasons to further appreciate the police force due to the negative impact of their absence in the society, while noting that it is not all policemen that are bad, he said.
Some of the residents in the state decried the activities of armed hoodlums, kidnappers other criminal elements who have taken over major roads and streets since the police retreated, while others lamented the lawlessness of motorists, especially commercial drivers, wrongful parking and indiscriminate use or drive against traffic in the state.
