Ondo State CP Stops Illegal Checkpoints Along Benin-Ore-Shagamu Expressway

Mr Oyediran Oyeyemi, the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, has taken steps to eliminate illegal police checkpoints along the Shagam-Ore-Benin Expressway, which regularly generate traffic jams on the key highway.

According to reports, the route has over 200 police checkpoints, and travelers spend seven to 10 hours on the same road as a result of the checks.

The CP, who led a team of command police officers to the expressway in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state, on Sunday, said indiscipline would never be tolerated under his watch.

He stated that part of the expressway’s checks would be halted and reduced.

“We don’t want a situation where travelers are stranded for several hours owing to traffic bottlenecks,” Oyeyemi stated. That is why we have come to speak with our men and bring sanity to the situation. The police will not tolerate any form of indiscipline. As a result, any police officer discovered blocking the road with a stick or other means would be held accountable. We will continue to visit this road without warning in order to maintain this. Motorists on this route should feel secure in the knowledge that they are safe.”

He also stated that extorting money from commercial drivers and other motorists, who are continually causing delays in the journey of innocent passengers on the road, will be prohibited.
