No Severance package agreed with NFF – Gernot Rohr

Gernot Rohr, the coach of the Super Eagles, has informed that he and the Nigerian Football Federation have yet to agree on a severance package.

The Franco-German had agreed to a N370 million severance package to step down as Eagles coach, according to several web outlets (not The PUNCH).

According to sources, the NFF and the sports ministry will meet this week to finalize issues around Rohr’s departure and the appointment of a new national team coach.

When asked if he had reached an agreement to depart his position as Eagles coach, Rohr, who had previously told The PUNCH that he was still in command of the team but that the NFF wanted him to leave, answered, “There is no agreement for the time being.”

He also believes he can take the Eagles to Cameroon for the Africa Cup of Nations.

“Hopefully, we will be successful.”

Nigeria is in Group D, along with Egypt, Guinea Bissau, and Sudan.
The Eagles will play Egypt in their first encounter in Garoua on January 11, followed by Sudan four days later.

On January 19, they will play Guinea Bissau in their final group game.

Following the Eagles’ lackluster 1-1 draw against Cape Verde in their final Group C World Cup qualifier in Lagos, Rohr has come under fire.

The three-time African champions finished first in Group C with 13 points to qualify for the World Cup playoffs next March, but there have been calls for Rohr’s dismissal following yet another poor performance by the Eagles, who have struggled against weaker opposition in recent times.

The NFF owes Rohr two months’ wages, and his current contract has one year left on it.

In the 54 games since his appointment in 2016, he has led the squad to 28 victories, 13 draws, and 13 defeats.
