No Body Died during lekki toll gate protest
The Lagos State Government has released its White Paper on the EndSARS panel’s investigation into the October 20, 2020 Lekki toll gate incident.
The panel’s report that nine people were killed at the toll gate when military rushed the demonstration ground to disperse the protestors was criticized by the Babajide Sanwo-Olu government.
The government dismissed the panel’s claim that nine people were shot dead as “assumptions and hypotheses” in a White Paper acquired by The PUNCH on Tuesday night.
Gboyega Akoshile, Sanwo-Chief Olu’s Press Secretary, stated one of the panel’s recommendations was rejected in a brief statement.
“Out of the 32 Recommendations made by the JPI in its Report of 15th November 2021, Government approved 11, rejected one, and accepted six with revisions,” he stated in a release titled “Highlight of the Lagos Government White Paper On The Lekki Incident Investigation.”
Fourteen proposals are beyond the state government’s jurisdiction and will be referred to the federal government for consideration. Allow the healing process to begin.”
Sanwo-Olu established a White Paper committee after the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Restitution for Victims of SARS-related Abuses and Other Matters presented its report on November 15, 2021.
