This football season had been a good one for the Liverpool Club and their best win i. this season is the 5-0 victory over Manchester united Last week.
One week later, after the Anfield team beat Manchester United, Jurgen Klopp’s side hosted Brighton at home but unexpectedly, the results of the game didn’t end as expected as it ended in a 2-2 draw.
Liverpool, which initially had a 2 goal lead in the match let it slip as Brighton’s players, Leandro Trossard and Enock Mwepu score a goal each to level things up for the visiting team. Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and Jordan Henderson had initially put Jurgen Klopp’s side ahead against Brighton at the beginning of the game.
The two Goals from Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane were cancelled out first by Enock Mwepu, a spectacular effort nearing half-time, and then Leandro Trossard who played as a substitute in the second half.Despite his brilliant performance last week against Manchester United when he scored three goals, Mohammed Salah failed to score for the first time in 11 matches.
Brighton could point to Yves Bissouma hitting the post and Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson made incredible saves which stopped Brighton from taking the lead.
After the disappointing result, Liverpool head coach, Jurgen Klopp spoke during an interview with Sky sports and he said,
” The skills of Brighton players are commendable, It is a day when we could have defeated them, but we couldn’t do it due to unforeseen circumstances. The disallowed goal decisions were the major cause of the setback – Sadio’s goal was arguably my favourite one since I joined the Club”.
“Then they score their goal, which was probably a cross, but we should have defended the half-time better, and then it’s game on. The best way to defend against the Brighton team is to have the ball, and sadly, we lacked the opportunity for that.
“We could not play a real football game anymore, we should have played more between the lines, and attacked the centre, which we didn’t do. Brighton players deserved the point they got because of their performance, we didn’t lose, but it feels like even with the quality of our opponent, we still have a lot to amend in the Liverpool team”.
Klopp blamed the draw on Liverpool’s team poor playing skills and although, he acknowledged the performance of the visiting team, he still believed that Liverpool had a greater chance of winning the game.
