Iwobi Market Value Drops By €4m

Due to his recent bad performance for Everton, the market value of Nigerian international Alex Iwobi has plummeted by €4 million, according to respected football statistics website Transfermarkt.

Iwobi, who joined Everton on deadline day for a reported £34 million from Arsenal in the summer of 2019, has failed to live up to the club’s expectations, netting only three league goals in over 60 appearances in his first three seasons with the Toffees.

Since his arrival, the Nigerian has been used in a variety of experimental roles by the various managers who have led the team. He’s tried his hand at right-back, right wing-back, left and right winger, and playmaker, but nothing seems to work for the 25-year-old.

Iwobi’s worth has dropped from €22 million to €18 million, according to Transfermarkt’s latest update on December 23.

Iwobi has been named to the final 28-man Super Eagles squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Cameroon in January.
