The Delta State Government will not tolerate the unwarranted attacks on — and killings of — our innocent citizens in Avwon, Agadama and Ohoror communities of Uwheru Kingdom in Ughelli North LGA.
This despicable act, which was allegedly committed by suspected criminal herdsmen who were aided and abetted by unidentified individuals in military attire must be promptly investigated by our security operatives.
Let me make this clear: Delta State is —and has been — receptive to herdsmen and other visitors. However, the hospitality and welcoming disposition of our citizens must not be mistaken for cowardice.
The state government will continue to encourage peaceful and harmonious relations between Deltans and our visitors, however, we will not sit back idly as outsiders attack our people.
This is why, in-line with my Constitutionally delineated powers as the Chief Security Officer of our State, I have directed the Commissioner of Police and the Brigade Commander, 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army, to act swiftly to bring the culprits to justice.
It is my fervent prayer that the families and communities that have been affected by this senseless violence remain calm at this trying time — as we allow our security agencies to work towards finding the attackers and maintaining peace across our state.
