The president of Turkey, Erdogan is delighted over the decision of the Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari to purchase Naval ships from the Mediterranean country.
This recent development between the Republic of Turkey and Nigeria is about the successes of the Turkish military
in Iraq, Syria, Libya and lately Azerbaijan.
According to reports from Punch News
the announcement on the purchase of military equipment from Turkey by Nigeria was made by the Turkish President himself after the bilateral agreement between the leaders of the two countries.
This came before the 3rd Turkey-Africa Partnership Summit commenced and it
shows the growing influence of the Republic of Turkey in the African continent.
The Turkish President revealed that he would make sure the defence corporation in Kaduna State is put into good use.
Garba Shehu who is Nigerian Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity said,
” The recent bilateral agreement between the two great leaders of Nigeria and the Republic of Turkey would go a long way in improving
the technical capacity and capabilities of the Nigerian military and in return,
boost the security network on the Nigerian defense in the fight against terrorism”.
Garba Shehu added ” I commend the Turkish President for partnering with Nigeria to
improve the security situation and for it’s interest in the development of the African region”.
When reacting to this development, Muhammadu Buhari said that the Nigerian Government
would work hand in hand with the Turkish Government to rid the West African country of terrorism and other forms of security challenges.
He added that Turkey has a good experience when it comes to handling issues on security matters and this is very vital for the safety of Nigerians.
During the meeting with the Turkish President in Istanbul, Turkey, President Buhari said,
“ On behalf of Nigeria, I express my gratitude to the government of Turkey for making this meeting possible and for pledging to tender its support to Nigeria on the security matters of the country”.
“ Following the security issues in Nigeria, I accept the gesture and as we know,
the Republic of Turkey has experience when it comes to dealing with insecurity matters and that’s why the Nigerian government partners with the Turkish government to fight terrorism in the country”.
Earlier, the Turkish leader said he was happy to receive Buhari shortly after he paid an official visit to Nigeria.
In his statement, the Turkish President, Erdogan said,
“ The Turkish government is fully aware of the crisis in Nigeria and we are always ready to
help and assist the country especially when it comes to defence and security matters”.
“I can’t express my satisfaction as Nigeria is extending its hands to other countries for assistance in battling its problems,
the Turkish government would also ensure that the defendant corporation in Kaduna State would be put into good use as soon as possible”.
Remember that the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari celebrated his 79th birthday in Istanbul,
Turkey as his birth date clashed with his time visit to Turkey.
According to the Nigerian government, the Naval ships which would soon be delivered to Nigeria would ensure safety in our Seas, coastal areas and the Gulf of Guinea.
