Bleeding After Sexual Intercourse: These Are The Reasons

Sexual health is a fundamental aspect of our health and wellbeing. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), sexuality is a central aspect of the human being that is present throughout his life. It covers sex, gender identities and roles, sexual orientation, eroticism, pleasure, intimacy, and reproduction.

One of the many advantages of sex is that it increases self-esteem because the feeling of pleasure, acceptance, and recognition of our body improves the concept that one has of himself, regardless of whether he is alone or in company. In addition, sex reduces stress through the release of oxytocin.

But in sexual relations, they are not all advantages. Problems also arise, expected or not. In the case of women, at the end, we find an abnormal vaginal sacred, which must be closely watched.

According to Mayo Clinic specialists, these are some of the possible causes: sexual intercourse

1. Cervical cancer

It is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the cervix. The main risk factor is human papillomavirus infection.

2. Cervical ectropion

is a condition in which the inner lining of the cervix protrudes from the opening of the cervix and spreads to the vaginal part of the uterus.

3. Polyps in the cervix

They are frequent, finger-shaped neoplasms that protrude through the cervical canal. Polyps are almost always benign and can be caused by chronic inflammation or infection.

4. Cervicitis

is an inflammation of the cervix, the lower, narrow end of the uterus that ends in the vagina. Possible symptoms of cervicitis include bleeding between menstrual periods or pain during intercourse.

5. Dyspareunia

Dyspareunia is pain caused when attempting intercourse or other penetrative sexual activities, or during these activities. It can be superficial or deep and is often a consequence of vaginal dryness or disorders of the genital organs. Here, the emotions of the person exert an influence, which greatly affects the pain.

6. Genital herpes or sores

According to Mayo Clinic specialists, genital herpes is a common sexually transmitted infection caused by the herpes simplex virus. Sexual contact is the main way for the virus to spread. After the initial infection, the virus remains inactive in the body and can reactivate several times a year.

The most common consequences are pain, itching, and sores in the genital area, but it is also possible that these symptoms do not appear and that a medical examination is not necessary.

7. Vaginal dryness

It is very common among women. There are two elements that contribute to good vaginal health: flora and mucosa. Under normal conditions, the wall of the vagina produces a natural lubricant (mucosa) that helps keep the area hydrated. A good state of the vaginal microbiota or flora is also necessary.

When this balance between the two is broken, it is when vaginal dryness occurs, that is, a decrease in vaginal discharge, with the consequent lack of lubrication in the area.
