African President Tests Positive To Covid-19

As the Coronavirus issue continues, it has been reported that an African President Tests Positive To Covid-19 and it happened to be the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa.

The President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, has tested positive for COVID-19 and because of this, he handed over power to his deputy, David Mabuza to control the government affairs till he recovers fully from Covid-19.

Through the official Twitter handle of the Presidency of South Africa, minister  Mondli Gungubele made the following statement below:

“The South African President fell sick after attending the State Memorial Service which was held in honour of former Deputy President of South Africa, Mr FW de Klerk in the City of Cape Town”.

” The President is currently in Self-isolation and the South African Military Health Service of the South African National Defence Force is currently in charge of treating the President who is experiencing mild Covid-19 symptoms.

” The vice president, David Mabuza is currently in charge of the Presidential functions till the President fully recovers”

Mr Gungubele Pointed out that Covid-19 vaccination remains the best way to reduce the spread of Covid-19 in the country and the South African President is already vaccinated.

Mr Gungubele advised anyone who came in contact with the South African President earlier to check themselves for any symptoms of Coronavirus or better still, isolate themselves and undergo Covid-19 testing.

Last week, before the African President Tests Positive To Covid-19, he met with some African leaders including the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari and because of this,

some people are questioning the health status of the Nigerian President and other African leaders that had close contact with the South African leader.

In reply to this, the South African minister, Mr Gungubele said

“ The President of South Africa,  Ramaphosa and the entire South African delegation were tested for COVID-19 in all the countries they visited in the previous week and because of this, there’s no cause for alarm”.

“The South African President and his delegation before their return to the country on the 8th of December had already tested negative for Covid-19 in Senegal during their visit”.

The Republic of South Africa is currently battling with the new Covid-19 Variant known as the “Omicron Virus” and from reports, South Africa is the worst hit from the new mutated variant of the Coronavirus.
