Reports from Sahara reporters, had revealed that some cabinet members of Nigeria’s President Buhari had reportedly contracted Covid-19.
Sahara reporters added that the Aso Villa had warned journalists against publicising the Covid-19 status of some cabinet members of President Buhari to keep it a secret from Nigerians.
According to Sahara reporters , Tijani Umar – the permanent secretary to the Statehouse,
the President’s Aide-de-camp, Yusuf Dodo and his Chief Security Officer, Aliyu Musa,
Garba Shehu, the senior special assistance to Buhari on media & publicity and Mister Lai Mohammed, who is the minister for information and Culture.
It was reported that the aforementioned names tested positive for coronavirus earlier in the week before it got leaked to the media after an initial strategy of the Federal Government to hide it.
The ones who tested positive for the virus were barred from attending any other meetings until their recovery has been confirmed.
When speaking on his health status, Garba Shehu said,
“ I don’t know about the health status of others but for me, I once experienced some mild Covid-19 symptoms but I am okay now after I had an intense exercise”.
“ Despite feeling alright, I am still under strict health checks as the nature of the virus would make health experts tell you when you are well and when you are not but I am taking all the prescriptions given to me and soon, I would resume my duties in the Aso Villa”.
Femi Adesina, Tolu Ogunlesi and Alhaji Lai Mohammed refused to speak on their health status as their counterpart, Garba Shehu did but it was confirmed that they are in isolation and getting treatments.
It can be recalled that earlier this week, the office of the Nigerian first lady, Aisha Buhari was shut down due to the poor state of the First lady;
but recently, it has been revealed that the reason for the shut down of Aisha Buhari’s office is because of the high rate of Covid-19 infections in the Villa and it was added that some of the staff of the first lady contracted the infection.
Mr Abdullahi, one of the close aides to Aisha Buhari made a short statement on this matter and reads,
“ Despite the fact the reason for the closure of the office of the First lady wasn’t stated in the announcement, I think the Covid-19 infections could be one of the reasons but I can’t say for sure as the First lady might have foreseen the danger and decided to avert it”.
The variant of the Covid-19, Omicron is currently causing havoc not only in Nigeria but in most countries in the world, this wave of Covid-19 is much and if care isn’t taken, another worldwide lockdown could be enforced.
