Strikers, Emmanuel Dennis and Cyriel Dessers have been recalled to the Super Eagles as embattled coach, Gernot Rohr names five new faces in 40-man provisional squad for 2021 African Cup of Nations.
The new faces on the list that has already been submitted to CAF and will eventually be pruned down to 28 are UD Almeria of Spain striker, Sadiq Umar, Leipzig loanee and Leicester City forward, Ademola Lookman, Reading midfielder, Ovie Ejsria, Hapoel Jerusalem shot stopper Adebayo Adeleye and Hoffenheim’s youngster Destiny Uche.
Dessers has been in top form since securing a loan move from Club Brugge to Feyenoord, scoring five goals in seven Dutch Eredivisie matches.
He has been capped once for Nigeria, in a friendly 1–1 draw with Tunisia on 13 October 2020 at
Jacques Lemans Arena in Austria.
Dennis, 24, has been capped thrice and last ran out with the side on 23 October 2019, in 1 – 1 friendly draw against Brazil at The National Stadium in Singapore. He has scored five goals and rendered six assists in 12 matches for Watford for the Hornets.
Lookman represented England at junior international level and was recently cleared by FIFA to represent Nigeria at senior level after switching his allegiance.
He currently plays for Leicester City where he plays alongside Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho, and has scored once in eight Premier League appearances for the Foxes.
Like Lookman, Ejaria also represented England at junior level, but chose to.play for Nigeria at senior level. He plays for Reading and has scored twice in 14 Championship matches this season.
Umar has scored seven goals for UD Almeria in the Spanish Segunda Division this season, and the invitation of the lanky striker will further open.up competition for starting spots in.thr Super Eagles attack line.
